Geography Curriculum Intent

Our schools aim is to give all pupils the geographical knowledge and skills they need to become confident and successful Geographers.

Through our curriculum, we aim to inspire pupils to become curious and explorative thinkers and to develop a diverse knowledge of the world.  We encourage and support pupils to confidently ask perceptive questions, observe places, measure and record necessary data in various ways, think critically and analyse and present their findings. We ensure that all of our students develop a deep understanding of the physical and human Geography of their local area, other regions of the United Kingdom and the wider world.

Our Geography Curriculum is carefully designed to be accessible to all learners, with a focus on developing Geographical skills and knowledge, Geographical concepts, terms and vocabulary and fieldwork. We adapt planning as necessary to suit the needs of every child so that they can reach their full potential. Our ambitious Geography curriculum enables all children to meet the end of Key Stage attainment targets in the National Curriculum. For EYFS, the activities allow pupils to work towards the ‘Understanding the World’ Development matters statements and Early Learning Goals, while also covering Foundational Knowledge that will support them in their further Geography learning in Key Stage 1.

Through our Geography curriculum, we aim to build an awareness of how Geography shapes our lives and its’ importance in looking after their world.  We hope to encourage pupils to become resourceful, understand the importance of sustainability and to become active citizens who will contribute to and improve the world around them.
