All About Year 1...
In Year 1 we learn to be more independent in our work. We still get to learn through play in our Discovery Area.
Our teachers will be:
Mrs Kettlewell, Mrs Horsfield and Miss Shore
In Year 1 we go into assembly more often. However, these will be done virtually at the start of this year. We will continue to have our Star of the Week Assembly, and look forward to seeing all your amazing hard work. In Year 1 there is a chance to take part in a running competition against other schools. We practice by doing the 1k-a-day. We also get lots of opportunities to be active throughout the school day during our learning time.
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday, for the first half term only , this will then change to Wednesday and Thursday.
Please make sure your child wears the correct PE uniform.
You can find out more about Year 1 by looking at the information on this page.
To support your child's phonetic learning journey, below are a few resources to support your child when learning from home.
We also recommend using:
To support with embedding their knowledge of the different phonemes and graphemes they are learning.
Spellings will be handed out on a Monday to be learned for the following Monday ready for our spelling quiz.
Homework will be handed out on a Friday. The work will be in a homework book, just like in Reception. All the work will link to the work being taught in class. It may have an English or a Maths focus.
The children will read once a week in school to an adult, we ask that you read three times a week at home to keep up this practice. Please record any reading in the child's reading record.
Later in the year a Reading Challenge will take place in Year 1. You will be sent more information about this at the time.
On Friday we made our own lighthouses at home.
